Lilacs on the Prairie Boutique and Gallery was opened in November 2001 in historic
downtown Manhattan, Kansas by husband and wife team Ron & Marty Wellington. We strive to make our store a one-of-a-kind shopping experience both regionally and now on the worldwide web. Our business is a caring, family-owned one thus we strive to offer quality,
exceptional gifts and women’s apparel as well as serve our customers in extraordinary ways. We love to create free beautiful packaging with our signature gift boxes. We also offer layaway terms, a gift registry service, and lots of personal, friendly service. Special orders are always welcome!
Next time you’re in Kansas, make
it a point to stop in to see us. Our family would love to meet yours—all of our family that is, including our three biological daughters (Meghan, Aubrey, and Brinna), and our special four-legged, long-haired dachshund daughters—Cocoa and D.K.
You may be curious about our name. Well, here’s our story. In 2000, we made the decision to move to Manhattan to escape the hustle and bustle of the busy Kansas City metroplex. We purchased 80 acres in the beautiful Flint Hills and then discovered in Spring of 2001 that our property was home to seven large purple and white blooming lilac bushes. As you probably know, lilacs are not native to the prairie. Since our family was also a transplant to this area, we felt the name Lilacs on the Prairie was appropriate for our store. Our store carries women’s apparel as well as fine gifts, hence the add-on “boutique and gallery.”
Our story wouldn’t be complete without telling you about our ties to the local university—Kansas State University. Ron and Marty met here while in college, so it’s like our second home. And, like all proud K-Staters, we’re hoping some of our offspring will follow in our footsteps. We’re proud to offer
fine licensed K-State products from Danielson Designs as well as Magnolia Lane.
